Even if you want to 'update your sound' with new pickups for your guitar it remains a major stumbling block when trying to choose the 'right' pickups for you. There are a multitude of reasons why this is not a simple choice. For example, you might play a particular style of music, but also you play other styles like blues, rock, fusion, metal, etc. and just hoping that makers when they talk about their pickups is accurate really is something that often you might take 'with a pinch of salt'. Everyone and his dog are today making pickups for electric guitar, whether replacements you might have been told are 'great', or even brands that you literally have never heard of. Buying anything like that to base YOUR TONE on is nothing short of crazy. So what do you do? Just make a choice and 'hope' for the best, or believe your 'mates' and what they say? Remember its all subjective and your sound may well not be the same as theirs.
