Is middle management the smart buy? In the early 2000s, the second generation of Acura CL Type S had stiff competition from BMW and Mercedes. The Type S was Acura's sporty luxury coupe, aiming at the BMW 330Ci and Mercedes CL. The Acura had a stout 3.2-liter V6 engine producing 260HP and lots of torque, but it's front-heavy distribution (60/40) and FWD kept it from really competing for ultimate driving machine. Today, a CL Type S is hard to find. But for some people it might be superior to the German options.
