In this passage, Marek, a monk who seeks to be an inquisitor, is captured by the vampire witch Eva. She tortures him both physically and mentally. But instead of hating her, Marek ends up loving her more than his own life. When the Inquisitor finds Marek, he discovers that the monk is in love with Eva and decides to abduct her and to forsake Marek. Shortly after, on their quest for Eva, Nezro and Assaru find Marek alone and bleeding himself out. Once aware of the situation, Nezro offers the monk to give up on his God and to embrace darkness, so as to save his own life and Eva’s.
