BigSis biological insect control solutions are so effective that they can replace chemical insecticides. They are based on the sterile insect technique (SIT): sterile males of the pest are released regularly to mate with wild females which then have no offspring. Our first solution addresses the invasive fruit fly, spotted wing drosophila (SWD) which attacks soft fruit including fresh berries. We have revolutionised the production of sterile male insects for SIT by using automation and artificial intelligence to rear and process insects individually. The is fully scalable by replication, not only for SWD but for many other commercially important pest insect species.
