Elton John "Breaking Hearts Tour" (Wembley, 1984)

Elton John performed in London's "Wembley Stadium" on June 30, 1984. The concert was broadcast on the radio and professionally filmed, which resulted in a series of VHS/Laserdisc releases. The original releases were billed as "The Night and Day Concert", and were split into two tapes containing a majority of the concert, minus a few songs and some speaking bits. The first half was later re-released in the USA as "The Breaking Hearts Tour". The second version is the one I have transferred from my own VHS copy right here. The tape was used but this transfer was the first time the tape had been played since I purchased it. This concert hasn't been reissued in full on DVD yet, which is a shame as it is a fantastic show. While Elton has clearly indulged himself in drugs, his high energy comes off more positive and less negative resulting in an exhaustingly fun show. And this is definitely the strongest his voice has sounded on any concert release.
