Cleaning an old hand plane from the 1920s so that I can use it for a woodworking project. Specifically, this is a Stanley Bailey No 6 Type 13 (1925-1928). I wanted to preserve some of the patina so I went light with the sanding. More sanding and polishing would have given a more pristine look but I think that removes the vintage charm. Using a utility blade to scrape off rust is a tip I learned from a hand plane collector. He recommended against using vinegar for rust removal. I used Nafta both for cleaning and catching dust so I don't have to wear a mask when sanding/polishing. Tools and materials: Nafta & soapy water for cleaning surfaces Utility blades, steel wool, 600 grit sandpaper for rust removal Emery cloth (off camera) Light oil and renaissance wax finish
