In an interview with @TheBakersfieldGentlemen, Steve Saka of Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust discusses his take on pairing beverages, drinks, libations and cocktails with cigars. Steve informs us that he is not the best for recommending and believes that you should pair what you’d like. He then discusses some general rules of thumb, like pairing sweeter drinks (bourbon, soda, milkshakes) with cigars for best success. He discusses that dryer beverages like scotch, wine and sake are difficult to pair. Steve then provides some interesting history surrounding the popularity of ports and cognacs as cigar pairings in the early 20th century because of less developed fermentation processes yielding harsher cigars with higher nicotine content.
