NUV-HOP is a multidisciplinary health collaboration between students from Northern Uganda and Belgium. The project’s main goal is to improve healthcare and health education in rural Northern Uganda, where conventional healthcare faces challenges such as limited facilities, a shortage of medically trained personnel, and difficult access to health centers. Working together with local authorities, doctors, and volunteers, NUV-HOP aims to reinforce local health centers by organizing outreaches and providing relevant information on health topics through health talks. Outreaches are one-day mobile clinics offering patients free consultations with doctors and therapy when needed. The outreaches also involve local organizations with expertise in specific health domains, such as HIV/AIDS, cervical cancer, family planning, dental health and Sickle cell disease. In addition, health talks are interactive education sessions held in local communities and schools, covering topics like mental health, puberty, HIV/AIDS, and menstruation. Through these combined efforts, NUV-HOP strives to make healthcare and health education more accessible and effective for communities in Northern Uganda. Tackle Sickle Cell Africa is privileged to contribute to the success of this impactful project by providing free sickle cell screening, testing, awareness , counseling and referral services.
