The temporary resident landscape in Canada is rapidly changing! 🇨🇦 The Canadian government is actively focusing on reducing the number of temporary residents (NPRs) following an observed rise in the population over the last couple of years. This move comes as voices in the Canadian market, including citizens and permanent residents, suggest the surge in the NPR population is a major contributing factor to the ongoing crises of: Inflation 📈 Housing scarcity High rental costs 🏠 Driven by an election agenda to bring the temporary resident population to an "all-time low," the changes have been rolling out across various immigration streams: Reduced Study Permits: Initially, there were bans and reductions on the number of new study permits being issued. Spousal & Work Permits: This was followed by changes to spousal open work permits and general work permits. LMIAs: We also saw adjustments to the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) process. Increased Refusals: The most recent, and perhaps most significant, phase involves the IRCC openly acknowledging and acting on a high number of refusals, even sharing Officer Decision Notes for rejected files. This is leading to a record number of Judicial Reviews (JRs) as applicants challenge these decisions. The new reality is an immigration system that is actively working to curb the temporary resident population. ⚠️ This is the new phase of IRCC! Expect continued high refusal rates as the government commits to its new policy. What are your thoughts on these changes?
