Took my 2014 Sonor Safari outside down the street to record over a song by the band Saffell. Why outside? I live in an apartment, can't play there. The audio was recorded in Reaper on my laptop using a Zoom R24 as a DAW. mic'd though a Berhinger console with a Shure Beta 52a on the kick, Shure sm57 on the snare, Digital Referance clip on mic on the 10" tom, Sennheiser 602e on the floor tom, Stering ST31 over the hat side and I had to use a Blue 100 over the ride side because my other small diaphragm condenser mic was not working for some reason. the only thing I did in post was EQ on each mic's track and then a mastering compressor on the master track during rendering for volume. thanks for looking. This is a great kit for small spaces. I did have to change some heads to get the tone I like. I put an Aquarian Super kick II on the batter of the kick and an Evans EC2 on the reso. (note even though there are bass hoops and not rims, I was able to use a regular head with this kick.) Remo pinstrips on the toms, i left the sonor reso's on the toms, they are made in china, but seemed to do the job ok. I will change those out eventually. I usually use a Ludwig Black Beauty for gigs, and probably will not use this sonor snare, but for this video i wanted the kit to be complete. I did change the head to an Evans EC1 reverse dot. I wanted to really crank the head down to get some crack out of this snare and these heads are great for that in my opinion. I left the Chinese Remo reso head on the snare. I shot the video 3 different times, with the camera in three different positions. I only chose one of the recordings, so that's why sometimes you can see a slight difference in attacks from camera angle to camera angle because i didn't play each take exactly the same. Shot with a Samsung 1920x1080 HD hand held camcorder.
