In this follow-up conversation, I go deeper into why trusting compliments especially from Black men hasn’t always come easily for me as a dark-skinned woman. This isn’t about rejecting praise or projecting bitterness. It’s about unpacking history, social conditioning, and lived patterns that shape how admiration is given, received, and interpreted. When you grow up watching dark-skinned women be overlooked publicly but desired privately, you learn to listen to actions louder than words. In this video, I reflect on: • How colorism quietly influences attraction and validation • Why some compliments feel transactional, conditional, or delayed • The difference between genuine appreciation and inherited bias • What it means to protect your self-worth in a world that often questions it For many dark-skinned women, compliments don’t exist in a vacuum. They’re layered with memory. With comparison. With moments where we were “good enough” in private but not chosen, defended, or claimed in public. So questioning praise isn’t insecurity it’s awareness. This is not an attack on Black men. It’s a call for honesty, accountability, and deeper self-reflection within our community. We can’t heal what we refuse to acknowledge. If you’re a dark-skinned woman who: • Has learned to read between the lines • Has questioned intention more than words • Has done the inner work but still protects her spirit You’re not alone. 🖤 This space is for real dialogue rooted in respect, truth, and emotional maturity.
