El municipio Arenoso pertenece a la provincia Duarte. Está ubicada en la parte este de la provincia, y tiene por límites la provincia María Trinidad Sánchez al norte y este, y el municipio Villa Riva al sur y oeste. Tuvo sus orígenes en a finales del siglo XIX, y al igual que otros municipios de Duarte este surgió tras la construcción y funcionamiento del ferrocarril Sánchez- La Vega. En este periodo, Arenoso era un importante punto comercial de la región, atrayendo a pobladores provenientes de San Francisco de Macorís, Moca, Salcedo y La Vega. El nombre de Arenoso se debe a que el Río Yuna atraviesa este territorio, y debido a las alzas en el nivel del río los bohíos quedaban llenos de arena. The municipality of Arenoso belongs to the Duarte province. It is located in the eastern part of the province, and is bordered by the province of María Trinidad Sánchez to the north and east, and the municipality of Villa Riva to the south and west. It had its origins at the end of the 19th century, and like other municipalities of Duarte, it emerged after the construction and operation of the Sánchez-La Vega railway. During this period, Arenoso was an important commercial point in the region, attracting settlers from San Francisco de Macorís, Moca, Salcedo and La Vega.
