Join me on an exciting journey as I experience the first day of service for Transperth’s brand new electric bus, the TP4004! This is a major milestone for public transport in Perth, and I was really happy to be one of the first enthusiasts to ride it which the private ride took us to Transdev Claisebrook bus depot, where all of the Central Area Transit (CAT) buses are. Both TP4004 and TP4005 operated Purple CAT route on the first day running from morning until afternoon. These state-of-the-art electric buses, built by Volgren Australia, are just the beginning of a massive shift toward greener public transportation in Perth. By mid-2025, a total of 18 electric buses are expected to replace most of the existing Central Area Transit fleet. And it’s not just about the buses—brand new charging infrastructure has been installed at the Claisebrook Bus Depot to support this transition to electric power, representing a step forward in sustainable transport. This was amazing and exciting to see two new BZL buses in service! Not only are they hitting the streets of Perth CBD, but they’re also part of the CAT services in Joondalup since 2022. What sets these newer BZL buses apart from their Joondalup counterparts is the inclusion of electric doors, which, honestly, I prefer more.
