Having been to the Hell's Kitchen Cannabis Collective on the day of launch during my research trip to New York City I speak with Patrick, General Manager, and aficionado of the sacred herb. Cannabis is sold over the counter legally in the State of New York including Cannabis Grower's Showcases which are pop-up farmer market-like spaces that connect buyers and cultivators peer to peer. Thank you to Patrick, the growers and the sales people for the experience which is essential for consumers to get safe access to cannabis. Many stores in Manhattan are illegal and quality is not assured. In the legal stores QR codes come on every product batch that is traceable to the laboratory analysis for cannabinoids, terpenes and contaminates. The first to receive licenses in New York state have been people affected by the war on drugs preferentially over corporations. This is a giant regulatory leap but will it pay off? With only half a dozen legal stores operating and over 200 cultivators, licenses for retail access cannot come fast enough. Overall the quality and experience in New York was some of the best and most acceptable I have ever seen. Long may social acceptance of cannabis continue and an industry of passionate consumers thrive.
