This is a capture of me and a friend playing the Battle mode in The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the DS. This is not an emulator. This footage was captured directly from my New 3DS XL using the aftermarket capture kit manufactured by Katsukity and installed/sold by Merki. I'm player one and Keet is player two. While I was visiting Keet in Florida, we managed to record the competitive multiplayer modes from various DS titles, including The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Keet has his own copy of this game, so we were able to jump right into the Battle mode without waiting for his system to download. Keet’s channel: / @keetandbait The Battle mode in this game is actually quite interesting because one person controls three Phantoms with the touch screen while the other person plays as Link and tries to carry as many Force Gems back to his base as possible before the time limit ends. If you get hit by a Phantom (without having a shield power-up), your turn ends and you switch sides. There are also power-ups to collect for both Link and the Phantoms, and those are quite helpful. Interestingly, Nintendo actually had online multiplayer for this mode, complete with taunts based on Link’s facial expressions, but the online ended in May of 2014 when Nintendo shut down the Wi-Fi Connection. I actually managed to play several matches online against other people back in the day, but sadly, there’s no footage of that. Keet had never played this mode before, so we did a warm-up match or two before recording this. During those warm-up matches, we discovered that Keet’s 3DS (which he bought used) had a strange touch screen problem that caused one of the Phantoms not to respond to touch controls most of the time. You simply could not draw a path for one of the Phantoms because somehow, the touch screen wouldn’t register the input. Also, another Phantom had an issue with the movement line not drawing exactly where you were pressing, so I simply had Keet use my DS Lite, and that resolved the issue entirely. There are eight separate stages in this mode, and we decided to play all of them in sequence despite this taking over an hour to complete. We got a little tired of this mode toward the end and started ending our turns quicker, but we still tried to be competitive most of the time. I’ve included time stamps for each mission below. Enjoy. Stage 1 - Standard Medium Stage - 0:43 Stage 2 - Standard Large Stage - 7:07 Stage 3 - Standard Small Stage - 20:32 Stage 4 - Standard Tiny Stage - 29:35 Stage 5 - Inverted Stage - 39:00 Stage 6 - Back-to-Back Stage - 47:33 Stage 7 - Stronghold Stage - 56:57 Stage 8 - U-shaped Stage - 1:02:20 Recorded with OBS Studio at 60 frames per second. I'm using a New 3DS XL and Keet is using a DS Lite.
