Age with Rights! Why a UN Convention on the Rights of Older People is essential

Geoff Rowe, CEO of Aged and Disability Advocacy Australia, and Queensland member of the Older Persons Network, talks about the importance of a UN Convention on the Rights of Older People is important. This is ahead of the Global Rally on the 3rd of March - a rally around the world for the rights of older people - to have their rights recognised and protected by a UN Convention. Like we have seen with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability, this universal recognition sets the foundation for inclusive policies, programs and services. It would be an important foundation for ending ageism. To this end, we are urging the Australian Government to participate actively in the upcoming UN Working Group meeting in April 2022 and support a new UN convention on the rights of older people.
