Workshop Build - Building A Stick Built Shop. Introduction to our workshop build series. We are building a stick built workshop here on the homestead. Building a woodworking shop with a garage leaves us many options. Construction will begin with grading before we can move into framing a workshop. For ease of maintenance, we will be using both metal siding and metal roofing, while still utilizing stick built construction. We have already gone though the bidding process with the contractors to save money, so this be a budget workshop build. However, this is our dream workshop, and we have been very careful in planning our dream shop. Through this "how to" series, we will cover everything from the design of this modern workshop to the building process. The workshop will be 28 by 40 or 1120 sq ft including the covered outdoor cooking area surrounded by boxed gable ends. It will be 2X6 framed, with 2 by 6 roofing trusses. It includes two overhead garage doors, two steel entry doors, and four double hung windows. We have hired an experienced local contractor who knows how to build a workshop like this from building similar storage structures for many years.
