When life, thoughts ,actions, diversity and even death becomes pointless, when nations, gods and power stand guard for the borders created by humans, when protests and struggles are getting saturated, An art tribute to Rohit Vemula who sent a shiver up the spine of fascism with his death. Oorali, the contemporary conversational band, as Martin Chalissery, the lead performer of the band puts it, has always stood apart for unique performances. Be it the theme, be it the performance, they have proved to be of a different breed. However, this year at the People Against Fascism event, their performance was triggered by an unfortunate incident of which Martin became the victim for no reason of his'. On 18/03/16 Martin was arrested on his way by the policemen and was denied any explanation for the arrest. He was tortured physically and mentally with insulting comments being made on his looks and long hair and tagged him as an outcaste. Martin, an indomitable spirit, staged a unique protest on his release. He and the entire team of Oorali sang songs of protest in front of the police station where he was kept as a 'criminal'. All said , they did not let the song die and took it to another level when they re - enacted the whole drama on stage at the "People Against Fascism" event. The grace of performance and the power of music once again reminded us that Oorali's poignant cry against the impostors of justice can't be ignored. Towards the end of the performance we hear Martin echoing a familiar voice through words. The voice of a young man who dreamt of journeying to the stars; Rohith Vemula, a victim of the injustice around us. An artist's grace is revealed even in his protest.
