WATCH WITH HEADPHONES FOR BEST EXPERIENCE A Genesis-styled cover of Knock You Down !!, Queen's second boss theme from Deltarune Chapter 2. 0:00 Oscilloscope 2:25 Gameplay 4:46 Tracker A few notes about the arrangement: Other than Attack of the Killer Queen, this was the other boss theme I was willing to cover. Everyone seems to always adore the secret/extra boss themes, and while I think they are good I don't like them all that much. These, on the other hand, I have been listening to nonstop since I heard them play in-game. Another copyright claim on this one! Guess that means I'm getting better at imitating what I hear :) Once again, no complaints with tempo here. Although technically this arrangement runs a bit faster than the source material, I considered it satisfactory; it doesn't begin to noticeably outpace the original for at least a few dozen measures, and if anything I prefer the faster tempo. I had a lot of fun choosing the gritty guitars and lead synths for this one. I feel like this song showcases the strengths of the sound chip better than Attack of the Killer Queen. In order to get the best sounding results, I had to perform a bit of channel shuffling, namely moving kicks to adjacent channels to let samples fully play. At the drum break towards the end of each loop, I took advantage of the supporting chords dropping out to add another guitar I had been considering. However, looking at my recent work I notice that I have been making heavy use of Contra Hard Corps' instruments; I should probably look into others from my library. I'd like to think I am beginning to make composition decisions for myself beyond making a carbon copy of whichever song I am working on. While I still place a lot of value on an accurate cover, if I think something detracts from the song I will remove it. I had the hardware capabilities to add a SN 4 hi hat to this arrangement to match the original, but I removed it because it only cluttered the song in my opinion; the kick and snare do plenty to drive the song as is. For this song, I used E1xy and E2xy commands to achieve my portamento effects rather than 01xx and 02xx. I appreciate how E1xy and E2xy have the ending note programmed in, and I just alter the transition speed; 01xx and 02xx require me to add another command to stop the portamento, and are flexible at the cost of requiring much more trial and error. In this case, that flexibility was not necessary, though I can imagine there may be cases where it necessitates the use of 01xx and 02xx over E1xy and E2xy. I am still experimenting with the structure of these videos. I definitely want to include oscilloscope views of the channels, as I can attest that it helps the listener identify parts of the song (it made mistakes evident several times in the process of putting together this video). From the data I have about viewer retention on these videos, people tend to stick around for the first minute or so, so whichever content comes first (oscilloscope, gameplay, tracker) is likely the only one people will see. I am going to try out putting an oscilloscope view first, and moving the tracker to the end. If you have any opinions on which visuals are most engaging please let me know in a comment! If you are a fan of covers like this, feel free to check out my previous works! I like a variety of games, so there is a decent selection. If you have any suggestions or tips about the composition please let me know, I'm looking to improve! Gameplay footage by Gellot: • Deltarune: Chapter 2 - All Bosses [No Dama...
