Moussey in the Vosges lies right on the border with Alsace-Lorraine has been described as the most tortured French region. Constantly terrorised and economically ransacked, (the people) also became cannon fodder for a foreign army. This memorial honours the citizens of Moussey with a Cross of Lorraine, which was and still is the symbol of the Resistance in France to the evil occupation. Many of the local population along the whole of the Rabodeau Valley and the Little Mountain Village of Moussey resisted the German occupation. However this was not without cost. The menfolk from Moussey and other villages ended up in concentration camps as they would not disclose the positions of the Special Air Service soldiers who were operating behind enemy lines during "Operation Loyton" 1944. It became known as the valley of the widows! This important memorial has been created by the Friends of the Allied Special Forces Memorial Grove and all of our Friends in France, Luxembourg, Gibraltar, the Falkland Islands and UK.
