Jeanette and Sarah get invited to explore the Centennial Mine (Eureka, Utah) by the lovely Rick & Maritta Dalrymple. This is a great time to shamelessly plug Rick's amazing book. It's worth every penny if you ever wondered where to go, or where to start when looking for cool rocks & minerals. Actually, it's worth it even if you DO know. They also put together fun field trips and classes of different kinds. Oh - and if you are looking to buy or sell a house - they are amazing realtors. Link to their website: www.rockon-minerals.com Video Note 1: Not caught on camera (unfortunately) Jeanette, trying to be smart and save herself a trip back to the car, started her descent down the steep hill carrying one rock-filled backpack on her back, one rock-filled backpack on her front, two rock-filled fanny packs, one rock-filled 5-gallon bucket, and one boulder for Sarah under one arm. In her free hand (for balance) is a hiking pole of mediocre quality. It failed. The fall was glorious. Feet slid forward on all the loose rocks, body fell back and landed on several sharp rocks while also being battered from every direction by the double backpacks. Basically, we're too old for this sh*t. Unfortunately, we don't care. Video Note 2: The Silver City pyrite video is super short, because breathing in all the arsenic dust while trying to film was not ideal. Pretty sure I'm still producing yellow dust when blowing my nose - months later. Video Note 3: Totally forgot the name of the third stop, and also what mineral we were supposed to be looking for. In conclusion; if you ever need answers to any mineralogy/geology/gemology question - don't ask us. We will pretend to know, and we will 100% be wrong.
