Turban History | Turban | 1000 BC Turban | Veronique Salagean

Tracing back The Turban as having World’s First Turban Designer Is not coincidence that journalists print so many news about turbans but everyone is missing who was there as printed work and name in turban history. 21st Century, London But speaking about the title, someone that proved in tremendous love with the turban techniques and creating 36 one-off couture turbans to be displayed online in the afternoon of 9th June 2016, was Veroniqué Salagean World’s First Turban Designer. Moved to London in 2012, her creative ability and style dominance lead to the original turban making. It was the moment that wanted to implement her style into something that people can wear and certainly her thought of scarves was not meant to be. After endless researches and fashion courses at Central Saint Martins, one afternoon her mind gone back to the very beginning when at 6 years old her mom gave her the needle and thread and making doll’s clothes from swatches as a way of daily entertainment. Her silence on time investment remind her that is what will fulfill her in life even though her mother never wanted her to work in fashion industry. 'The initiative, ambition and the desire to be recognised in the world for my own achievement, led to the turban. Perhaps it is not of a such coincidence. I love my turbans to bits and I do see them beyond fabrics but my little babies. It feels right and I can say that now I am truly happy that I made it but yet worked, strive and sacrificed for it. I pursue it for my heart.’ She officially embraced the tittle when first sold her own turban, in 2015 to a socialite in public and as she attests there where her classmates milliners that addressed her as the one in Turban History as being known for turbans only. Then public appearances where people queued for having a picture with her. And now, She is taking the turban to the highest peaks. Looking into deep research about ‘turbans’ and firstly being called ‘dulband’ dating to the 1st century B.C. by early persians in modern Iran and Prygians in modern Turkey but being printed for the first time in Ovid’s Metamorphosis that people wore a conical cap (Prygian cap) covering the donkey ears of people for the looking good intentions. Still during the 1st century B.C was greatly worn in modern Turkey named ‘tülbent’ and believed to be worn at the same time in Egypt. A style of turban called phakeolis continued to be worn by soldiers of the Bizantine army in the period of 400 – 600 as well by Bizantine civilizations as depicted Greek frescoes from the 10th century in the province of Cappadocia in modern Turkey. The turban styles is belived to arrive in the 16th century in France where was named by people ‘turban’. The printed history says that it was still worn by Greek speaking descendants in the early 20th century. Turbans were formally associated with the upper class and leaders so many men in the cultural elite still wear turbans. Moreover, people have created different shapes by encircled bands of cloth and during 16th to 20th century was pictured in great paintings from the upper class as others getting interest in making it. It is also known that a turban is a couture piece and in order to make one it needs to have a base. But the question is how so many people but no one has been known for it? Well, the second fashion designer to have a fashion house in Paris after Charles Frederick Worth was Paul Poiret. It was printed that the famed reception of the Arabian Nights was held on June 14th, 1911, in the Paris residence of Paul Poiret on the rue d’Antin, at his hosted lavish party where he wore his own made turban as well his wife, adorned with an aigrette feather. According to her, the idea came about during their move to the sumptuous private residence on Avenue d’Antin, when every woman of the house, assailed by an onslaught, tied a simple triangle of fabric on their heads who’s three corners were held on the back of the neck in a bun. Whatever the case, Poiret contributed making some turbans for women to compliment his designs. Again, he was a master couturier french Fashion Designer. The next person in line that has made turbans but her title as Milliner Designer tells she was a hat maker, was Madame Paulette. Her work between 1939 – 1984 had great achievements as being worn by actresses and royal families around the world. In the book Hats by Madame Paulette written by Annie Schneider are illustration of her turbans that aren’t drawn by her. As a great draper she created a little volume but simple elegance. From 20th to beginning of 21st century so called turbans but really head wraps have been placed on the international fashion catwalks of Yves Saint Laurent, Oscar de la Renta, Hermes and Marc Jacobs. They all accessorised their fashion designs with the headdress. And so, they are all Fashion Designers.
