Update on Maple 💔

This is not the update we expected to share. Early this morning, Maple went into active labor.... strong contractions, active pushing, and after a few hours, there was no progress. We consulted with our vet and then rushed Maple to NC State, preparing for a possible emergency c-section. But, what we learned there shocked us... and unfortunately, Maple will not be having any Saplings. 💔 When we rescued her, Maple was pregnant.... but the severe stress that she endured that night likely caused her to miscarry. And although we saw fetuses during her ultrasound - her body had already begun the process of reabsorbing them. Last night, her body was contracting to try to expel the remaining fluid and tissue. Maple was given a shot of Lutalyse, and she is home now and absolutely exhausted. There are no babies with her, but she has Gandalf... and he hasn't left her side.... he instantly ran to her, and it gave her so much instant comfort. We will continue closely monitored over the next few days as her body finishes processing this loss. Thank you for holding space for her and for us. We are still processing this ourselves... but we needed to share with you all too. Maple will need a few days to heal and we need a few days to breathe. Maple has been through so much....Humans really took everything from her that day.
