I left my plane on the shores of the busiest seaplane base in the world after checking out the fall color last year, and then, boom! Overnight temperatures plunged, and the lake turned into an icy trap. With no time to spare, I had to beach the plane, pour gallons of antifreeze into the floats, and cross my fingers it wouldn't just turn into a giant ice cube.
