The 70 years of Australia-Cambodia Diplomatic Relations

In an exclusive interview with Cambodianess, Australian Ambassador to Cambodia Pablo Kang highlights Australia’s role and its generous support over the past decades to Cambodia in fields including public health, governance reform, agriculture and education as ties between the countries reach 70 years old this year. He also emphasized that Australia has contributed significantly to building Cambodia’s future through education support. The ambassador said he was very optimistic as the assistance given by the Australian government through scholarships had been vital in producing capable human capital as the backbone of Cambodia’s development. Cambodia and Australia established formal diplomatic relations in 1952. Relations were cut during Cambodia’s decades of war and conflict in the 1970s and 1980s and resumed in 1991.
