VS Sonia Rykiel on catwalk ENDS SONIA RYKIEL REINVENTS THE MYTHICAL PARISIENNE WOMAN Sonia Rykiel's Autumn Winter Pret-a-Porter collection was devoted to the mythical Parisienne, from flirt on the street to cosmopolitan sophisticate. She started with a model sashaying down the runway on a black knit miniskirt, knit top with zipper, a long black fox stole knotted at the should topped by a little tipped beret with sparkly red pom-pom. Rykiel, the diva of Paris fashion since the 1950s knows her Parisian lady and likes to dress her in glamorous outfits. Her specialties - knits and georgette print dresses where both on view here with lashing of 1930s nostalgia. There was also plenty of fox and sable trim, platform shoes and clinging dresses with flounced details. As well as her favourite black, Rykiel turned to colour for this collection, trotting out clinging dress in turquoise, hot red, shocking pink; yellow and more all variously decorated with knit rosettes. Risque jokes in embroidery are another of her trademarks, and some black cashmere dresses were knitted intarsia-style with pink hands on the behind or the breasts, plus, of course for this post anti-fur age, black fox trim at the neck. Another Rykiel tradition on show was the cabaret style grand finale, with 40 models dancing out in mid-riff bearing black outfits with knit toppers embroidered with the motto 'So Rykiel' in the glittery sequins, with fluttery skirts and ostrich feathers for pockets.
