SFT Distinguished Research Seminar Series | Fashion Theory and History

This talk is based the forthcoming book, Slow, to be published in May 2026 as part of the Fashion in Action series of short books on global issues in fashion, which call on readers to become active participants in its future. Set against a backdrop of massive waste, intensive energy use, human exploitation and overconsumption of fast fashion, Slow offers a thoughtful, practical, sustainable approach to fashion, speaking to more mindful, caring and humanitarian attitudes and practices. Drawing on good fashion practices and ideas from around the globe, the book, and this talk, advocates that engagement with a 'slow' approach to fashion can offer a more sustainable future for all.
