There was a lot of anticipation leading up to Sunday, December 22, 2024, as a new Giant 30-40ft swell model appeared which had everyone on edge wondering whether The 2024-2025 Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational would run or not at Waimea Bay on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawai'i. By Friday, the officials involved with calling on the event, were pretty certain the event would go and sure enough it did. Congratulations to Landon McNamara, the winner of the Eddie Aikau 2024 🥇 Witness the spectacle of nature in the most exciting surf competition in the world since The Eddie Aikau 2023 event on January 22, 2023. Rip Curl sponsored this years event as some of the world's most elite big wave surfers showed up to surf 30-40 foot waves at Waimea Bay. This big wave surf contest, which has only run 11 times since it first started in 1985, is in honor of Eddie Aikau who sacrificed his life to save his fellow crew members on the voyaging canoe Hokule'a in 1978.
