Unity is one of the most celebrated ideals in the modern church. We are often told that if Christians would simply set aside doctrinal differences, the church could finally move forward together. But Scripture asks a deeper question: Can there be true unity without truth? In Mark 9, the apostle John tells Jesus that the disciples tried to stop a man casting out demons in Christ’s name because “he was not following us.” Their concern was not whether the man honored Christ, but whether he belonged to their group. Jesus responds with a correction that challenges both extremes: sectarian pride and doctrinal compromise. “Do not stop him… For the one who is not against us is for us.” In this sermon, Pastor Matt explores what this moment teaches about biblical separation, doctrinal purity, and Christian unity. Jesus is not promoting doctrinal indifference, but He is confronting the tribal instinct that elevates our group above the work of Christ. Christians are called to guard the gospel faithfully while resisting the pride that fractures the body of Christ. This message helps us understand how to stand firm for truth without falling into unnecessary division. You’ll learn: • The difference between biblical separation and sectarianism • Why not all doctrines carry the same weight • The essential truths Christians must never compromise • How believers can pursue unity rooted in the gospel • Why protecting the purity of Christ’s church still matters today Key Passage: Mark 9:38–41 Main Truth: Biblical separation protects the purity of the gospel, but sectarian pride must be rejected. ⸻ Join Us In Person or Online Highland Hill Community Church – Tacoma, WA Sundays at 11am | Bible Study at 9:45am Visit: https://highlandhillchurch.org ⸻ Stay Connected Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...
