Jiri Prochazka may take drastic measures if he doesn't get a title shot against Alex Pereira. Prochazka (32-5-1 MMA, 6-2 UFC), the former UFC light heavyweight champion, has put together back-to-back wins after coming up short in a title bid against Pereira (13-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) at UFC 303 last June. After stopping Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree Jr., Prochazka believes he's done enough to earn another crack at "Poatan," but if things don't go his way, he may move down to middleweight. "For me to cut to 93 kg (205 lbs.), is not a problem. I think to 84 kg, like middleweight, will be really, really something," Prochazka told Cageside Press backstage at Oktagon 79. "I believe I can make it with my body, because I know my body. So, I believe I can make it, but it depends. I really first want to bring the title to Czech Republic, light heavyweight." Landing another fight against Pereira would be tough, considering he's already lost to him twice in title fights and was stopped both times in the second round. Their first meeting came at UFC 295 for the vacant title, and the rematch came at UFC 303 after Prochazka stopped Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 300. Pereira may be moving up to heavyweight to chase a third UFC title, but nothing has been made official yet. Moving down would be an unprecedented move for Prochazka, who has competed at light heavyweight for his entire tenure. That move would presumably come if he could land a title shot in the lighter weight class to face current champion Khamzat Chimaev.
