Wide of field where people gathered for broadcast of memorial service STORYLINE: Artists, fans and family gathered at the Bassline music venue in Newtown, Johannesburg, on Wednesday to attend a memorial service and pay their respects to to the dead reggae legend Lucky Dube. The reggae star, who recorded 22 albums, was shot and killed in an apparent carjacking attempt nearly a week ago. On Sunday, Johannesburg police said they had arrested five men in connection with the murder. The head of the South African company Gallo music group Ivor Haarburger told the memorial service; " It is a loss felt by millions of people, millions and millions of people around the world ", he said. Dube, who launched his career with criticism of the apartheid regime, was killed after he dropped two of his teenage sons at his brother's Johannesburg house. His friends told South African newspapers they believed it was a targeted assassination. But the police are sticking with their initial theory of a botched carjacking. Carjacking is rife in South Africa, which has gained notoriety for its high rate of violent crime.
