Exploring Ranishain and Saipal Base Camp East: A Hidden Gem in Bajura Nestled in the Far Western region of Nepal, Bajura District offers an untouched paradise for mountaineers and nature enthusiasts, with elevations ranging from 1050m to 6400m. Despite its potential for tourism, many of Bajura’s treasures remain undiscovered by the wider world. Our journey began from Martadi, the district headquarters, aiming to expose Bajura’s hidden gems and promote sustainable tourism. Bajura is home to peaks over 6000 meters, and its diverse landscapes, ranging from rugged mountains to desert-like features along the Karnali river, offer a unique experience for travelers. Kolti, a commercial hub, connects Bajura with neighboring districts like Humla, Mugu, and Kalikot. The Karnali river, which flows through the major business centers of Bajura, enhances the region's beauty with its winding, dry, and rocky terrain. The journey took us through remote villages like Yunna, where life remains untouched by modernity. Wooden bridges, built by locals, span rivers, creating a route for sheep, goats, horses, and travelers. Hiking through this region is challenging but deeply rewarding, offering unparalleled views of towering Himalayan peaks, picturesque mountains, and cascading waterfalls. As we approached Ranisain, the base camp of Saipal Mountain, we were met with the harsh realities of the region's weather. After waiting for two days for the clouds to clear, we decided to leave, hoping to witness the majestic Saipal on another visit. Despite the physical challenges and moments of doubt, our journey was marked by resilience, awe, and a deep connection with nature. The hospitality of the villagers warmed our hearts, and the breathtaking scenery left an indelible mark on our souls. The journey also highlighted the need for sustainable development in Bajura. While infrastructure is being developed, it must be used wisely to ensure it serves the community effectively. The joy we felt upon returning from Ranisain was a testament to the profound impact this region had on us.
