Apple cider Ingredients 2 Granny smith apple 8 Fuji apples 1 Orange 4 Cinnamon sticks 1tsp Whole allspice 1tsp Cloves 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 tsp vanilla extract 10 -12 cups Water or until covered Directions Wash apples off Cut apples in half and then quarters ( remove stems) Remove the peel from the orange and tear it into slices Place apples and orange slices into stock pot Note: orange gives it a little citrus flavor Fill the stock pot with 10-12 cups of water Put cinnamon sticks, cloves, and whole all spice into the pot Nore: we use whole spices, so it's not difficult to strain, and it won't have a gritty texture Note: Use allspice to infuse flavor into liquids in slow cooked dishes and drinks. Whole allspice is less intense and ground is more potent Stir around the ingredients Bring to a boil Then, simmer on medium heat, covered, for 2- 2 1/2 hrs After its done simmering Take a masher and press down on the apples In the pot to help extract more juices from it Take a large container with a mesh strainer over it and pour the apple cider into the container. The strainer should catch the apple remnants Note: you may have to use a spoon or spatula to press down just from the discard peels etc. Strain twice if you would like Mix in vanilla extract and brown sugar Cool the apple cider in the fridge before serving Note: You can have cider hot as well Serve and enjoy
