New Grange and Knowth in Ireland: UNESCO Neolithic Site Since we had rented a car in Ireland we decided to take day trip up to the Bru Na Boinne / Newgrange UNESCO World Heritage Site north of Dublin. The weather held off while were there and we managed to luck into a free day with very few other people. Apparently it gets quite crowded in the high season and they really kind of rush you through but on the other hand everyone is extremely helfpful and welcoming. The sites of Newgrange and Knowth are neolithic passage tombs built during the stone age. They are remarkably well preserved and the price of admission includes the visitor center museum as well as shuttle service to the sites and guided tour. In Newgrange you can go into the actual burial area. Of course, as in most of Ireland, the views are stunning as well. We learned a lot in our short time there and had a wonderful time exploring. I highly recommend it but be sure to have food and snacks for the wee ones. They do have a cafeteria with good food but the timing at the sites can be tricky. You have to sign up for a shuttle time when you get there, but it doesn't have to be the first one. You can sign up for the later busses and give yourself a break in the middle.
