Test paint in a hidden area of your garment as paint colors may vary on colored or textured fabrics. (0:14) Step 2 - Wash and dry new fabric items to remove sizing. DO NOT use fabric softener. (0:18) Step 3 - Place a piece of cardboard or wax paper between fabric layers. Shirt boards are made for this very purpose. Then pin the fabric in place to ensure a smooth working surface. (0:40) Step 4 - Design away! Remember, when making lines, always keep tension on the fabric. Keep the applicator tip against the fabric, allowing the paint to seep into the fibers.
