DIVINYLS Monkey Grip SAMPLER

40 years ago 'Boys In Town' entered the Top 10 in Australia and was the debut release for the rock band with the charismatic lead singer Christina Amphlett. The song and the Mini LP from which it emanated, was used in the 1982 movie 'Monkey Grip' based on a Helen Garner novel and starred Noni Hazelhurst and Colin Friels. 'Boys In Town' was an instant smash and revealed that the Aussie music scene, early in the 1980's was alive and very well - with artists like INXS, Cold Chisel, Australian Crawl, Little River Band, Air Supply and Men At Work just to name a handful. This three track Sampler leads off with the aforementioned debut by Divinyls and a promotional clip that is proof positive of what a dynamic group they were, and how electric Chrissie was as a lead singer. There had been nothing quite like her before 1981 and certainly none since! 'Boys In Town' made the Top 10 downunder; peaking at #8 and spending 4 months in the Top 40. 'Girlfriend' was a track I connected with immediately. I loved the vocal acrobatics that Chrissie could muster on this song. I've created a pictorial montage for it; using images of the dynamo at her most expressive! 'Only Lonely' was a strong inclusion on the Mini LP, and whilst it was not issued as a single in its own right, this clip was filmed to help promote the release of the soundtrack in May of 1982. It got played to smithereens on my turntable that year. I got to see the band live, just the once, but never forgotten. It was absolutely tragic that the world lost Christina Amphlett in 2013 at just 53 years young. The Divinyls had an impressive discography and there are many posts on my channel bearing their name.
