Starting at The Travellers Rest we head up through the old cottages to Steel Fell. This is the highest point of the day and offers great views. From here we trek over the end of the valley to Calf Crag. It can be boggy on the top outside of the summer season, which is when I completed this circuit. After visiting Calf Crag the homeward journey first visits Gibson Knott and offers excellent views over the valley the whole route back. Finally, the approach is made to Helm Crag. A very popular family friendly mountain also referred to as The Lion and the Lamb due to the unusual rock formations at the summit. This is perhaps the most recognisable summit in the lakes and is a great family favourite. The circuit is on the boarders of Grasmere and is very popular due to its accessibility and views. I highly recommend this walk which takes around 3-5 hours to complete. In winter expect the walk between Steel Knott and Calf Crag to be boggy underfoot. I may have mentioned it once or twice.
