Although Prague belongs to relatively well arranged metropolises, sometimes it is not difficult to get lost in it. And even for native Praguers. So how not to get lost in the numbering of houses, subway exits or streets or bridges? We will reveal all in this video. With us, you will no longer have to look at the map when walking through Prague! House numbering Some Prague streets are long, so it is difficult to guess at which end which number will be. Are you wondering whether you can find a house with number 10 in Korunní closer to Náměstí Míru or Flora? The answer is simple – in Prague, houses are numbered in the direction from the Vltava River. And so the number 10 will be closer to the "Mírák". And what if the street is parallel to the Vltava River? Then it is numbered according to the course of the river. For example, number 5 in Italská Street can be found near Vinohrady, not near Žižkov. Street versus squares There is one more problem with the numbering. It is necessary to know whether the address is a descriptive or indicative number. The red tables are descriptive, the blue tables are indicative. In the streets, reference numbers go "zigzag" - even on the right, odd on the left. But watch out! The numbering is different on the squares. The reference numbers are consecutive, not "zigzag", and the numbering starts from the main building of the square (eg the town hall) to the right, clockwise. The exception is Wenceslas Square in Prague, where it is numbered the same as the streets. Where to find which street Prague has almost 8 thousand streets and it is impossible to remember them all. But there are clues to guess what neighborhood a given street is in. In some areas, streets are all named after one key. For example, streets in Smíchov City bear the names of famous women, in Vinohrady there are streets named after Western states or after Czech rivers or natural areas, in the Zahradní Město the streets are proud of the names of trees and flowers, Barrandov has streets named after actors etc. A number of main streets in Prague are named according to the direction in which they lead - for example, Plzeňská, Strakonická, Ústecká, Horoměřická, Bělohorská and others. Do you want to know more about the mentioned Smíchov City? Check out our recent video: • Největší pražská proměna – Smíchov už... How to know the subway How to get out of the subway where you need to, especially in places where there are more exits? It's simple - all exits are marked with the letter E and a number. The first exit on the right is always E1 and the other numbers continue counter-clockwise. For example, mapy.cz or various applications with timetables will tell you which "climb" you should take. You can cross the Vltava River in the center of Prague on nine bridges. But can you tell what their names are? There is a simple mnemonic for this, the sentence "Žába plavala jako labuť, která měla černou špinavou hlavu". The initial letters of the words in it indicate the names of the bridges - Železniční, Palacký, Jiráský, Legií, Karlův, Mánesův, Čechův, Štefánikův, Hlávkův.
