In this NWU Business School Bon Bon episode, Prof Christo Bisschoff interviews Prof Henri Bezuidenhout about doing business in Africa. South Africa is a leading economic force in Africa, and significant trade exists between South Africa and other African countries. Local grocery franchises expanded on the continent and SA companies are involved in basically every other country either in trade agreements, commerce, or service projects. But how do you do business in Africa? Diverse cultures (inside countries) and even in South Africa needs to be further explored. Adding insult to injury, the historical colonisation of Africa further complicates the matter because the French, English, Portuguese, and even German colonies adopted different business methodologies and practices based on their past. One way to bridge the gap is to be sensitive to cultural intelligence as a means of business negotiations. This video explores business in Africa, and also focuses on the value of cultural intelligence as a means to do so.
