Treating your Canvas with Gesso

In this video I demonstrate how to treat your raw canvas with gesso to get it ready for paint. I apply three layers of gesso, sanding in between each layer to get the smoothest possible canvas. I’m a firm believer in using raw canvas, and then treating it as appose buying pre treated canvas. By treating your own you achieve a finer surface. The raw canvas is more elastic when you stretch it, and treating it adds greater tension. Sanding may seem superficial, but it makes a huge difference in the texture of your final result. I explain the nuances of the process in detail to give you the advantage of my years of experience. I recommend buying gesso by the gallon, and applying it with a roller.
