Budget Surplus

We may have some sort of agreement to use the budget surplus here in WI to increase some school funding (great) and reduce some property taxes (also good). But, like we learned about in the "bait and switch" lesson, don't let folks misdirect or mislead you! Property taxes overall are up in WI over the last 15 years because the legislature, controlled by Republicans, has refused to use general purpose funds to support our local schools. They take that money and create giveaways like the MAC (Manufacturing and Agriculture Credit) that cost the state $500M per year, and then say they can't provide even an inflationary increase to schools.
