MIKROC PRO COMPILERS Twenty years ago, MIKROE company released its first PRO compiler, MikroPascal for PIC, accompanied by an integrated development environment (IDE). Its success led to the creation of more compilers: mikroC, mikroBasic, and mikroPascal for various microcontroller families including PIC, dsPIC, PIC32, 8051, FT90x, AVR and ARM, making up, in total, a whopping 21 compilers. This effort resulted in a diverse range of libraries and examples we had to offer to embedded industry. As technology advanced, supporting 21 compilers became increasingly challenging. Having state of the art editors and multiple compilers under the same IDE was paramount, which led to creation of NECTO Studio. This has, inevitably, put PRO IDE (and compilers) on a phase out course. This transition, though gradual, will enable us to create a superior product and establish a unified platform that delivers the best experience for embedded software developers and end-users alike - NECTO Studio. WHY MIGRATE TO NECTO STUDIO? *1. Cross-Platform Compatibility:* NECTO Studio ensures a seamless experience across various platforms, including Windows, macOS, and Linux, whereas MikroC is limited to Windows only. *2. Supported Toolchains:* NECTO Studio boasts an extensive selection of 12 toolchains, offering developers flexibility and choice, whereas MikroC provides only one toolchain option. *3. AI-Based Auto Completion:* NECTO Studio features TabNine, an intelligent autocomplete plugin, enhancing coding productivity and accuracy, whereas MikroC PRO does not feature any AI-based whatsoever. *4. Syntax Highlighting and Code Completion:* NECTO Studio's advanced syntax highlighting and IntelliSense enhances code readability and comprehension, surpassing MikroC's basic syntax highlighting and code completion capabilities. *5. Framework:* NECTO Studio adopts an open-source SDK-based framework, offering benefits such as ease of use, portability, modularity, abstraction, integration of third party projects and a vibrant community ecosystem, which MikroC's library-based approach doesn't provide. *6. Build System (CMake):* NECTO Studio leverages CMake as its build system, offering advantages like integration with embedded tools, modularity, cross-compilation support, and consistency, which MikroC's proprietary build system lacks. *7. HW – SW Configuration Wizard:* NECTO Studio simplifies HW/SW configuration with its setup approach, providing a unified configuration for multiple projects, whereas MikroC requires manual configuration for each project. *8. Code Examples:* NECTO Studio provides over 1500 categorized code examples, enhancing development efficiency and learning, a resource not readily available in MikroC. *9. Microcontrollers:* NECTO Studio offers compatibility with over 2300 microcontrollers from multiple leading MCU vendors, and we are constantly adding more. *10. Reference Design Platform (EmbeddedWiki):* Find a project from EmbeddedWiki, and build it with the help of NECTO. What is EmbeddedWiki? The world's largest embedded project platform with over a million embedded projects. *11. GUI Applications (LVGL):* NECTO Studio integrates LVGL, a renowned graphics library, enhancing the development of GUI applications—a feature absent in MikroC. *12. Real-Time Data Acquisition (PLOT):* NECTO Studio offers real-time data acquisition through its Plot feature, allowing developers to visually analyze sensor data trends — a functionality absent in MikroC. *14. WiFi debugging:* NECTO Studio offers microcontroller debugging over WiFi. NECTO Studio is using world's first programmer/debugger device over WiFi to perform this task. *15. Remote Hardware Access (Planet Debug):* NECTO Studio offers remote access to development boards for programming and debugging, providing flexibility and accessibility for embedded developers globally. *16. Multiple Programming Options:* NECTO Studio supports various programming options including CODEGRIP, mikroPROG, and GDB server, catering to diverse developer preferences and needs. *17. Multiple Debugging Options:* NECTO Studio offers multiple debugging options such as GDB, LLDB, debug over WiFi and Application Output, providing developers with flexibility in debugging processes.
