For years, Quillette has been misrepresented by activists, academics, and mainstream media as a “far-right” outlet—despite its origins in classical liberalism and open inquiry. In this conversation between Claire Lehmann (Founder of Quillette) and Zoe Booth (Content Director), we discuss how those narratives began, why they persist, and how they continue to shape public discourse. A striking example comes from a University of Cincinnati researcher, funded with over $300,000 by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, who runs seminars on “far-right radicalization.” He characterises Quillette as more radicalizing than Fox News and comparable to InfoWars. If Quillette is being classified close to a “terrorist organization” in DHS-linked research, perhaps it explains the constant difficulties in running ads on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit. This video explores: The history of misinformation about Quillette Academic bias and activist vandalism of Quillette’s reputation How DHS-funded research frames independent journalism Why online platforms suppress Quillette and similar outlets Liberalism vs progressivism and the culture wars The targeting of gender-critical feminists like Kathleen Stock and Holly Lawford-Smith How emotional reasoning has overtaken philosophical argument in public debate If you’re interested in media bias, free speech, liberalism, or gender ideology, this conversation shows why these issues matter—not just for Quillette, but for journalism and the future of open inquiry. 🔔 Subscribe for more independent journalism: 🕒 Chapters 00:00 – How Quillette Is Mischaracterised by Media and Academia 03:44 – Academic Bias, Activism, and Online Vandalism 10:17 – Platform Bias: Meta, Reddit, and Information Control 15:50 – Journalism, Backlash, and the Culture Wars 20:28 – Liberalism vs Progressivism: A Clash of Worldviews 24:55 – Liberalism in the U.S., U.K., and Australia 27:48 – Misrepresentation of Gender-Critical Feminists 29:20 – Kathleen Stock, Holly Lawford-Smith & Activist Harassment 31:44 – Emotional Reasoning vs Philosophical Argument ------- Quillette is an Australian-based online magazine that focuses on long-form analysis and cultural commentary.
