STEM NOLA STEM Fellows Architecture, Design & Adaptive Technology

Our 20 STEM NOLA STEM Fellows are building a bright future for themselves! STEM NOLA partnered with @eskewdumezripple to engage high school students from the greater New Orleans area in a course to teach them about Architecture, Design & Adaptive Technology that is exposing the teens to what it takes to design and build structures. During the course that spanned three weekends, the students toured the New Orleans BioInnovation Center where they learned about the design work happening in the scientific fields there to understand how design skills can translate into every industry. They also learned about 3D printing, 3D scanning and advanced architectural technology as they work to create their own models of STEM NOLA's future STEM Innovation Center. On their last day in the course, the @STEMNOLA STEM Fellows learned about healthcare architecture and adaptive design/prototyping. The student were asked to come up with an adaptive design challenge and create a prototype to solve the challenges in one hour. The Fellows wowed the professional mentors with their empathy and creativity. Projects included drinking and eating aids, a new way to experience sports for the visually impaired, adaptive door openers, an adaptive table and more!
