Kodak has spent years developing a modern film movie camera and the result of all that work is the Super 8 Camera. Blending modern design and conveniences with analog filmmaking, this Super 8 Camera is a brilliant revival of the classic moviemaking aesthetic. Extended Gate Super 8 Format While developing a modern Super 8 system, Kodak was able to create a method to make even more use of the film. This camera uses what Kodak calls Extended Gate Super 8 format to capture an area approximately 11% larger than traditional Super 8 film. Measuring 4.2 x 6.3 mm, it provides a slightly taller 1:1.5 aspect ratio that is more flexible when intercutting with other formats. C Lens Mount Filmmakers will be able to use a wide range of lenses thanks to the use of the standard C mount on the Super 8 Camera. It comes with a 6mm f/1.2 lens that will provide a 35mm equivalent field of view of ~35mm. This can be easily swapped out with other standard C-mount lenses. Users can use adapters to work with a range of other lenses though when using these lenses you should consider the format's crop factor of approximately 5.7x. Digital Viewfinder A modern camera comes with modern conveniences. Among the major inclusions of the Super 8 Camera's feature list is a large, 4" articulating LCD that functions as a viewfinder with through-the-lens preview during shooting. The display shows many current settings alongside a preview of the image, including: Film Counter in feet Scene Counter Cartridge Number Film Type Frame Rate Battery Status Light Meter Volume Meter Audio Input Type SD Card In addition to the camera's LCD, there is a micro-HDMI port that can send a video feed out to any compatible monitor or display. Advanced Audio Recording While the camera won't record audio directly to the film stock, the Super 8 Camera will offer internal audio recording to an SD card. Kodak has also designed the camera to offer Crystal Sync at 24 and 25 fps so that when the audio is synced in post it will match the footage. To record audio you'll need to use either the 3.5mm line in or 3.5mm mic in. You can also monitor the audio using meters on the LCD and via the 3.5mm headphone out port. These audio files will be saved to an SD card in the .wav format. Modern Design and Ergonomics While the Super 8 Camera is a newly developed product, the design references the look and feel of traditional Super 8 systems. It has been optimized for current times and has more intuitive functionality. For ergonomics, the camera features a top handle with an integrated run button to activate shooting. A detachable pistol grip with run button is also included for a classic eye-level shooting experience. Powering the camera is a removable Li-ion battery pack that'll keep the camera running for approximately 10 film cartridges, totaling about 36,000 frames. The battery can be charged by plugging the camera into the included USB power adapter and using a micro-USB cable. It'll fully charge the pack in about 3.5 hours. Super 8 Film Types Everything is new about the Super 8 Camera except for the film. This camera will take Kodak's standard Super 8 film cartridges with legendary stocks that include VISION 3, EKTACHROME, and TRI-X. Each cartridge contains 50' of film, useful for capturing about 3 minutes of footage, depending on the frame rate. Available for rental NOW at www.dkrentalhouse.com
