Shire launches education campaign for chronic idiopathic constipation

In this exclusive industry perspective from Digestive Disease Week 2018, Mike Nedham, product strategy lead in GI at Shire, discusses the company’s new initiatives in gastroenterology and hepatology health care and advocacy. “Shire is very excited about DDW this year,” Nedham told Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease. “We’ve been coming here for more than 15 years, but this year I think we have the most activities going on ever across inflammatory bowel disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, liver diseases, and also in motility.” According to Nedham, Shire is launching a new “disease state campaign” based around the mechanisms of disease in chronic idiopathic constipation and the role of serotonin in the disease. With this, the company launched a new micro-website, www.thecolonisamuscle.com. “That’s going to be focused on trying to teach people about the different mechanisms that cause a colon to be dysfunctional, the role of serotonin in that, and how hopefully in the future we’re going to be bringing new products to help patients in that area,” Nedham said.
