She Texted "He Locked Me in the Toilet"—Wrong Number—Mafia Boss: "Keep Talking to Me. I'm Coming The message came at 11:47 p.m. A short vibration on a phone that rarely received anything except business orders and death threats, but this one was different. It was from an unknown number, a woman's number. "Please help me. He's going to kill me tonight. I don't know who else to text. This was the first number I found." The mafia boss, Dominic Castellano, stared at the screen. He frowned at first, thinking it was a mistake, a scam, a wrong number. Then another text arrived, shorter, shakier. "I'm locked in the bathroom. He's breaking down the door. I can hear him screaming." Dominic's breath stilled. He had seen fear. He had caused fear, but he had never seen this. A woman begging a stranger because she had no one else left. He typed only three words. "I'm coming." No hesitation, no questions, no second thoughts. His men froze as he stood up in the middle of a million-dollar negotiation, grabbed his coat, and walked toward the door. "Boss, we're in the middle of—" "This meeting is over." He didn't explain. He didn't need to because something in that woman's words, that trembling desperation, hit a part of him he thought had died 15 years ago. As his car tore through the streets of Chicago, another message appeared. "He has a gun. He says if he can't have me, no one will." Dominic pressed harder on the accelerator. His knuckles turned white against the steering wheel. Street lights streaked past like golden bullets. He grabbed his phone with one hand, typing while steering with the other. "What's your name?" "Olivia. Olivia Harper." "Olivia, my name is Dom. I'm 10 minutes away. Can you barricade the door?" "I pushed the cabinet against it. But it won't hold long." "Stay with me. Keep texting." Then came the message that made his heart stop. "If I don't make it, please tell my mom I love her. She's at Sunrise Care Home. Linda Harper. She has Alzheimer's but sometimes she remembers me." Dominic felt something crack inside his chest. This woman, hiding in terror, was thinking about her mother. She was making peace with dying. "You're going to tell her yourself," he typed back. "Stay with me, Olivia." Two minutes of silence.
