Fall is in the air and that means favorable flying conditions for the Rocky Mountains. As I mentioned last year, Fall is one of the best times to fly in Colorado. The winds aloft are generally light, the temps are cool (lower density altitude), and VFR conditions prevail. Speaking of VFR, while I always fly VFR in the mountains, I’m usually traveling from point A to B. Translation: flying high, talking to ATC, and being assigned a discrete squawk. While I really do enjoy that kind of flying, sometimes you have to break the mold. This video accentuates the joy of flying in its purest, simplest form. Disclaimer: Flying low presents added risks compared to flying high. Things happen faster and there’s less time to react. While filming this video I often had 3,000+ feet of “usable altitude" to my left, right, or immediately in front or behind me. Lastly, I strictly adhered to CFR 91.119 during the recording of this video. Please fly safe and avoid flying over people, vessels, vehicles, and structures. Aspen trees don’t seem to mind - at least in my experience ;) Timestamps: 00:00 - Intro 01:30 - Fall in Colorado
