Pro-Life Nonprofit Stands Up to Hostile State Official

First Choice Women’s Resource Centers is a faith-based, non-profit pregnancy care center that supports women and families in New Jersey. First Choice operates five locations in the state and offers a range of free educational and material resources, including baby clothes, maternity clothes, and food. Since 1985, First Choice has helped more than 36,000 women in need. But New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin, who is not shy about his pro-abortion agenda, is targeting and harassing First Choice with an unfounded investigation because of its faith-based, pro-life views. In 2022, Platkin issued a consumer alert “warning” New Jerseyans about pregnancy centers like First Choice, and he even allowed Planned Parenthood to edit his draft, thanking them for their “partnership.” And in 2023, without citing any complaints or evidence that First Choice had violated NJ law, Platkin issued a subpoena demanding over 10 years’ worth of sensitive information from First Choice, including the names, phone numbers, and addresses of its donors. This baseless investigation is a clear attempt to intimidate First Choice and its supporters because of their beliefs. The AG isn’t protecting consumers—he’s protecting the abortion industry’s monopoly on women in crisis. What’s at stake? This isn’t just about New Jersey or pro-life organizations. This case impacts all Americans. If government officials can do this to First Choice, they can do it to any group they disagree with—left or right. And that’s unacceptable in a free country. No government official should be allowed to weaponize his power to punish Americans just because he disagrees with their beliefs.
