Di Guan Da Di, whose full name is "Zhong Yuan Er Pin Qi Qi She Zui Di Guan Dong Ling Qing Xu Da Di Qing Ling Di Jun," is also known as Di Guan (Earthly Officer), Qing Xu Da Di (Pure Empty Great Emperor), or Zhong Yuan Er Pin She Zui Di Guan Qing Xu Da Di (Second-Rank Earthly Officer Great Emperor Who Pardons Sins). He is an important deity in the Taoist Three Officers system, along with the Heavenly Officer Great Emperor of the Upper Yuan (Shang Yuan Tian Guan Da Di) and the Water Officer Great Emperor of the Lower Yuan (Xia Yuan Shui Guan Da Di), collectively forming this sacred trinity. In Taoist belief, Qing Xu Da Di's status is second only to the supreme Jade Emperor. He is not only the ruler of the underworld but also oversees numerous deities, including the Five Sacred Mountains' Emperors, the Twenty-Four Governors of Mountains and Rivers, and the Nine Earthly Soil Emperors. With the authority to manage the life and death records, as well as the rewards and punishments of all beings on earth, Qing Xu Da Di enjoys an extremely high deity status in Taoism. Legend has it that every year on the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month, known as the Zhong Yuan Festival, Qing Xu Da Di personally descends to the human world. With a compassionate attitude, he pardons sins and exempts punishments based on beings' good and evil deeds, granting them precious opportunities for repentance and self-improvement. Therefore, on this day, the folk have a custom of honoring their ancestors and praying to Qing Xu Da Di for the pardon of their ancestors' sins. During the process of pardoning sins and removing calamities, Qing Xu Da Di always adheres to the principle of fairness and impartiality, favoring no one. Additionally, Di Guan Qing Xu Da Di has a profound connection with natural elements such as land and mountains. He can influence the operation and balance of nature, ensuring harmony and stability between heaven and earth.
